48MP IN A PHONE! Check out the all new HONOR View 20! (NO NOTCH!)

HONOR is the sub-brand of Huawei, their phones using pretty much the same components, and both of them are using Leica optics. The View 20 is a step further ahead the Mate 20 Pro in terms of camera performance.

Well, HONOR’s phones are have always been elegant and good looking, with a metal body, as it is now. On the back there are the cameras, a fingerprint reader (which we prefer here rather than under the screen), and a HONOR sign. The body is metal all around, and the frame around the screen is so thin. We mentioned that there is no notch, but that’s not 100% true. HONOR managed to replace it with a round circle (bigger dot with screen around) upper left on the screen, and that is the camera. It’s not annoying at all during everyday tasks, however during a movie it is (still better than a normal notch).

Sadly, the display is a 6.4 inches LCD with a 398 ppi destiny. We would prefer AMOLED panels on phones, don’t know why HONOR choosed IPS, maybe because of the dot like camera. (85,7% screen-to-body ratio)

The View 20 Pro got the newest 7nm Kirin 980, which is a little better or equivalent to last years Snapdragon 845. It’s paired with 6/8GB RAM and 128/258 GB storage. There is no complaint about the performance, but it is not the fastest phone we have ever seen. However the 4000mAh battery with a 4.5v/5A fast charging is pretty impressive

Finally, this is the point where the View 20 is ahead its competitors. It has a camera system that boosts a 48MP SONY IMX 586 with ½”CMOS sensor (the new version of what is inside the P20 pro), and a 3D camera. It also has AI features, like AIS Night Shot, or Image Stabilisation. We do not know how it performs in real life, so wait for tests and let’s see if it could beat it’s opponents.

  • Depth Sensing by the 3D camera
  • Skeletal Tracking
  • Real Time motion capture
  • 3D Motion-Controlled Gaming
    • Offers a Kinect like motion gaming, however it can not be that accurate

Honor View 20 is a great phone for a price-tag under 800$. The camera has some awesome features and properties, but the LCD display and the non-waterproof body are bad points. The performance is in the top 5 within android phones in 2018, and the battery is big enough for a 2 day “light use”.
