OnePlus 7 Pro

OnePlus did it again, with a new standard for performance!

Last year the OnePlus 6 (for 6T review click here) was the fastest phone for a long time, with a low price and a great camera. On the 14 of May, 2019 OnePlus introduced us it’s new flagship phone, which is just as good as it’s predecessor. The Oneplus 7 Pro!

Design and Display

The design hasn’t changed a lot, metal frame and it comes in 3 colours, Mirror Gray, Nebula Blue and Almond. On the back there is a 3D Corning Gorilla Glass panel, and the logo.

Luckily, OnePlus managed to put a 6.67-inch 2K+ Oled display into it’s phone, with a rare 90Hz refresh rate. It means everything looks smoother and faster, the colours are accurate and the 3120 by 1440p resolution is just amazing. With a 516ppi the screen is full of details, it is one of the best display nowadays for watching movies and gaming. And there is NO NOTCH! (later in the article)

Of course the OnePlus 7 Pro got the newest 7nm Snapdragon 550, and models are available with 6/8/12GB of RAM. Storage range is 128/256GB, but what is more interesting is it UFS 3.0 2-Lane wich is the new type of memory system, which is faster than previous ones. Samsung Galaxy Fold could have been the first with this, but because of it’s delay OnePlus got the Gold medal. The fingerprint reader is under the screen (optical), and there is no Jack port. It’s new 10 layer cooling system supposed to keep the phone cool even while playing the most hardware demanding games. However, on the front there isn’t a notch, instead a there is a pop-up selfie camera system on the top of the phone. According the OnePlus it is very durable, and whereas there is no IP rating, Oneplus also claims the phone is waterproof for everyday us (we don’t know what is this meaning, but probably a kind of IP67 like).

OnePlus joined the trend with it’s new triple camera setup.

  •  The main camera is a 48MP Sony IMX586 (f/1.6), with a 0.8 µm pixel size, however in low light the system captures 12MP photos with a 1.6 µm pixel size. OIS is integrated as well as EIS. It captures sharp photos in good light conditions.
  •  Secondary camera is a 3x optical zoom telephoto one, which is a 8MP 1.0 µm size sensor with also OIS and aperture of f/2.4.
  • Finally there is an Ultra Wide Angle Lens, with 16MP, 117° FOV and f/2.2 aperture. It is great for panoramas, group photos and landscapes.

Video recording is up to 4K60 fps, and slow motion is 720p at 480fps.

In the pop-up camera there is a Sony IMX 471, with 16MP and EIS.

OnePlus 7 Pro is near to the top of android phones, it has great features, fast performance and a 4000mAh battery with Warp charge 30 (5V/6A). Unfortunately the price is a lot lower than it’s competitors. It’s 749$ for the 12GB RAM  + 256 GB version which is so amazing. Probably it’s the best value flagship phone on the market right now.
